BIO
After 30 years as a physician, 22 of them practicing orthopedic surgery in Texarkana, Texas, Jim Keever returned to his alma mater to enter Law School. Graduating from the University of Kansas in December 2001, Jim spent most of 2002 taking and passing the Kansas and Texas Bar exams. He added the Arkansas Bar in 2005.
Since 2003 Jim has devoted his professional activities to the direct or indirect representation of parties injured by health care providers, whether physician or organization. Using a combination of his medical training and legal skills, Jim can streamline the process of evaluating the merits of a medical malpractice case, and can approach his representation with a unique insight into the mindset of the defendants.
Although he does accept self-referrals, Jim is happy to work with other attorneys, whether as a “curbside” consultant, a paid consultant to the litigation, co-counsel, or as lead counsel on referral. He retains his Texas medical license, although no longer seeing patients, and is willing to serve as an expert witness in those jurisdictions that recognize active practice is not necessary for such activities.
Jim continues to be licensed to practice law in both Arkansas and Texas, but by far the majority of his practice is in Arkansas. In December, 2009, Jim’s client in Hempstead County, Arkansas, received the largest jury award ever in that state against an individual doctor, $5,223,000.00.
